Failed Basic - Need Kick in the Pants

Maybe it's late but I don't understand what you mean.

    Behavioral Emergency

So you're saying that because the psych department was definitive care that they would do a better job at treating the patient than the ED?

Failed Basic - Need Kick in the Pants

Hey guys, hope you are all doing well :) First I'd like to say I have to really admire any MR, EMT-B, I, or P out there, because I really want to be one. Don't know how other schools are run but the one I was attending has a multiple choice final and sort of a Patient Assessment final...

Did I provide sufficient EMT care? 7 y/o hit head on slide

I'm paranoid :) If the patient was presented to me on a back board and my suspicion was to c-collar and the patient was cool and clammy I wouldn't have taken her off board, moved her to a relatively sheltered location to see if the environment was the issue (provided additional blankets, etc.)...

    Website suggestions

Also not sure that this is the place for this. But if expenses are a problem then why even worry too much about a virtual store front. Set up a good EMS blog that is entertaining and educational, build up traffic and get income off an ad service.

    Duty to Act Questions

Still just a student, but it seems to me that in some cases the duty to act when not on duty would have to be clearly defined. The thing to me is that in the OP capacity they are not serving as an EMT, and that further they may only legally render care under direct or standing orders of a...

Advice Needed...ER Tech or BLS IFT to Medic School?

I agree with the ER Tech position over EMT-B working IFT. Personally speaking I've found the EMT-B course to be very challenging as a novice and very interesting. But despite a heavy course load I realize that an EMT-B is not trained so much more than a First Responder, at least here in...

    ITLS vs. ATT

Thanks Flight-LP for the insight. I was aware of some of the things that you had mentioned, at least by the promotional material from ATT. Right now every dime I spend on these courses is my own. The nice thing about my state, and I don't know about the others is that a lot of the programs allow...

    ITLS vs. ATT

The school I'm going too includes a number of certifications in the paramedic program. One that I was sort of looking forward too was ITLS (already got the book and everything:wacko:). Anyway they have said they are switching over to ATT (Assessment and Treatment of Trauma). But because a lot of...

    paramedic degree vs certificate?

If you get your certification through a community college, sometimes they'll give you credit towards your AAS, so you just have to round out a few courses to qualify for the degree. That's what I'm basically doing right now. You just need to research things and find out if something like that is...

    Getting (and staying) Fit

I'm eating a good quality 1700 calories. I try to mix in a low fat yogurt with most of my meals, milk, and lean meats, as well as whole grain breads and cereal, vegetables, and quality fruits. I understand what you're saying about quality calories though.

    Getting (and staying) Fit

Congrats on the weight loss. I've lost 27 pounds since I decided to pursue EMT/Medic. What I've been doing is this. I've calculated my BMR for my prefered weight...that is what I should weigh, which was 165 pounds. The reasoning for this is that once I get down to a 165 pounds I want to be...

Police and Firefighters Stand by as Man Drowns

You know they'll milk this a little bit (the journalist), but had some firefighter, LEO, or EMT gone out into the water and drowned with this AMS individual the journalist would maybe, maybe spend 30 seconds on this story. I can't fault the people that showed up on the scene for "standing...

EMT-B courses. How long did it take you?

I'm in a 6 week course. It calls for 180 didactic hours of which 40-48 are in the class, which is pretty much skills and scenarios. So the balance of the course is online including lectures, tests, and homework.
