    Excited Delerium

I actually attended one of Charly's lectures. If you get a chance to see her, I def. recommend it. She is highly energized, and keeps the lecture going, and it was very informational. I think it was three of her lectures I sat in on in an all day conference in Nebraska one time, and she was...

Doubling ambulance fee adds insult to patients' injuries

That's how we do it here, too. The money goes into the general fund. But considering that our billing only generates about half of our annual operating expenses, and the city subsidizes the rest, we really don't have a choice. If we had to operate solely off of what we generated, we'd either...

    Look Alikes.

When I was younger I was told alot that I looked like Kristy McNichol. (If you know who that is you must be old like me! )

    diet soft drink addiction

I can't make it through the day without a pepsi. At least one, most of the time 5 or 6. I am a Pepsi-junkie. Wish I could give it up too. I get migraines, so when I try to cut back on the pepsi, i start getting headaches. Any ideas how to avoid that? If I drink tea, it must...

    Pandemic Flu plan

Thanks Princess. That does help. I did check the pandemicflu.gov site when I was assigned this, and found a bunch of checklists and stuff to use. That's pretty much what they told us too, is a 6-8 week cycle, etc. We meet with our county commissioners next week again to work on it some...

    Pandemic Flu plan

I have been assigned the glorious job of drafting a Pandemic Influenza/Bioterrorism Response Plan, detailing how our ambulance service will respond and handle a pandemic outbreak or a bioterrorism event. Since the research indicates that up to 40% of staff may be afflicted at any one time...

    Suction unit problems

During one maintenace inspection, I checked it as per usual and discovered that the tip of the suction catheter had melted into the end of the tubing, and there was what appeared to be black residue on the unit, so am not sure if there was some kind of chemical reaction between the yankauer tip...

    Suction unit problems

Does anyone carry the Laerdal Compact Suction Unit? If so, have you had issues with it? We've had a few problems with it. Just wondering if anyone else has. Feel free to PM me for further info. Thanks.

    "Heroin" Overdoses

I received an alert from our state board of health today on this very subject. I assume it's accurate, but I'll compare it tomorrow with what I received at work.

    When do you "Make'em Naked"?

For me, it would have depended on a couple other factors, such as weather conditions and immediate life threats such as oncoming traffic, etc. I know you said PD was on scene, but since you said it was a main highway where it's not uncommon for cars to reach 100 MPH, my choice would have...

    Tips on IV's

I, too, go for the ones I see. I prefer the veins that jump up and say "hey", but unfortunately not all people have those kind. Sometimes I just can't see the veins, and then I go for the ones I can feel. I have very sensitive fingertips, and can feel better sometimes than I can see them...
