    "Ticker" box/RoadSafety-Do you have them?

Sometimes I wish the hospital would not sedate my psych patients before

Downunder do you work for an ambulance service private or other wise. My service does in excess of 20 psych transports a day. We are a 911 service. Not a private transfer service. Medically cleared psych pt going for the er to a holding facility. Ambulatory with no medical problems and on a...

Sometimes I wish the hospital would not sedate my psych patients before

I am not talking about psych pt that was a 911 calls that could could be actually having a medical problem or altered mental status. I am talking about 96 hr holds and long distance transfers for psych holds. Those pt rarely having a medical problem that requires care en route. Now if they are...

Sometimes I wish the hospital would not sedate my psych patients before

I find it interesting that MOST psych pt really have no need to be in an ambulance being taking to a facility. its usually just a lack of law enforcement for the transport.

    What should have been done?

So are you saying that you would not preform any ALS skills on said pt?

    What should have been done?

A BLS ambulance transported her....thats the part I keep tripping on. An acute abdomen requires a paramedic, an IV, oxygen, monitor, and frequent vitals. An etopic can turn deadly quickly. Not to mention its just nice to have the option to give Zofran( or antimetic of your companys choice) vs...

    Working EMT wearing Paramedic patch

I dont see how you can be licensed and not trained thats backwards. I would think you would need to have completed your training to be licensed and to wear a patch. Honestly if you don't know how to be a paramedic you shouldnt have the patch on.

Suggestions from any other lady EMT's?

I've worked in EMS for three yrs now. I've been a paramedic oh about 2 months. My husband and I are considering getting preggers next year and I plan on staying on the ambulance until the day I hatch. I mean there are plenty fat medics out there that do their job "okay" surely I can do it while...

How long in the field before medic school?

I spent two years as an EMT on a truck before I went to Medic school. From what I've seen from the people at my service that never worked as an EMT before they became a Paramedic. Spend some time in the field as an EMT first. Those of us who did transitioned and completed our requirements fast...

SIDS whats your school of thought?

I believe it is less traumatic to wrap the baby in his/her favorite blanet or with their favorite stuffed animal and to calmly explain to their parents that you are very sorry but that their baby is gone and let them rock it or whatever and say goodbye. Just time to wrap their head around it and...

    Xopenex vs Albuterol and Atrovent

As a severe Asthmatic here is my two cents. I perfer xopenex over albuterol because it doesnt give me the side affects like increased heart rate. I dont use atrovent because I am allergic to it. However atrovent isnt the same type of drug as albuterol and xopenex. It takes longer to kick in but...

SIDS whats your school of thought?

When you run a SIDS death and the infant beyond attempting resiscutation whats your school of thought. Tell the parents there is nothing you can do and let the parents attempt to wrap their head around it and say goodbye or grab the baby and run for the truck? I recently had a SIDS death.
