    Stethoscope Critters

for the kids...any little thing that'll help get their mind off an injury or event is so helpful. At my current job (not EMS related) I use cartoon band-aids for the kids when they need them, and it helps them stop crying a whole lot faster than normal, boring band-aids. Maybe I just have a...

    Asthma...

When I was a kid I got bronchitis and ever since then I've had to use an inhaler before I exercise. I don't always use it, but when I do I feel a lot better. Take it before you exercise to open up your bronchioles and see how that works. Try doing step work. I know it sounds dumb, but step...

    Academy Training (Fire)

well I got "the" phone call 2 weeks ago from the training captain telling me that I had to be let go from the academy because I didn't pass the physical part. I was under the impression that I had a second chance to do it, but I guess not. I was so devastated, thankfully my fiance was there to...

Suggestions from any other lady EMT's?

why not try and see if you can help teach future EMT's? I do that so I get CE's so I can keep my license and don't ever have to take the NR again! It depends on the state/county you're in, but where I live they let me proctor to get CE's. There are online tests you can take too that will give...

thanks for the good wishes! it seems that my fiance is the only one encouraging me through this part. my parents aren't too thrilled...my dad wanted to be a firefighter back in the 70's, but he couldn't pass the physical part. he was a few classes away from his AS in fire science. I'm just doing...

Annoying EMT student back for round 2...

hmmm....very good idea. I'll run it by the other proctors. We have the same policy, no harassment of any kind is allowed. It is grounds for removal from the class and they're not allowed to take it in the county again. Thanks for the help. :)

    Failed...:'(

I'm sorry, that's awful! You were so close though...you'll get it next time! It says you're from Northern California...I proctor an EMT class up there and we're the same way with grading...any chance you could've been in our class?!

Annoying EMT student back for round 2...

Actually, I don't. For the class that I teach and attended, the majority of the students were from ages 18-30. I was stating that it is rare to see anyone above the age of 30 in the class. I think that as long as you know your stuff, it doesn't matter what age you go into EMS. Hell, if David Lee...

Annoying EMT student back for round 2...

I'm not the only person who has had problems with this student. They have given every instructor in the class a hard time. The lead instructor hasn't talked to him yet about his attitude or his inability. Which lead us (the proctors) to wonder wether or not we should talk to the lead instructor...

Annoying EMT student back for round 2...

So, I help teach the EMT class where I live. I basically just teach skills (splinting, airway, OB, backboarding, pt assessment...) and there's this student who is back for another try from last semester. They drive everyone crazy. It took this individual an hour to do a pt assessment on mid-term...

Halloween (EMS & Non EMS related)

I dressed up in my fiance's yellows (wildland gear), donned my red stethoscope and my station blues and was his ff/EMT and he was my trauma patient! hahaha!! I did the makeup for him. It was a bolt coming out of his forehead and I made it look totally real. Bloody and bruised...totally awesome...

    Academy Training (Fire)

well...I had my fit for duty test on monday. I can push/pull 250lbs...I passed the cardio (it was close though) and I have to be able to lift, squat, lift again, and walk 100lbs for 10 feet and then put it back. I also have to overhead lift 100lbs... I lifted the 60lbs in the plastic crate...

    Being an EMT and married

two in, two out I'm engaged to a long time volunteer and seasonal ff/EMT. we met when I took my EMT class and started hanging out when I came back to help teach the class with him the next semester. We've been friends since 2007 and seemed to have both decided that our relationships with other...
