Hello all, my name is Nickolias and my brother jaime and i volunteer for EMT and Firefighter here in Pennsylvania. i recently purchased an ambulance, Ford 2006 E350 6.0, 3 weeks ago. i drove it from location to here PA fine. but let it sit for 2 weeks. i do not know how to start it. i have heard it might be too cold. i might need a plug that goes under hood but don't know what kind to buy to warm up truck. any ideas would greatly be appreciated. Ive never had diesel truck before. please help. sorry if this is a "dumb" question.

I'd sell it TBH. The 6.0 power stroke will come back and bite you in the ***. Theres a reason why Ford didn't have that motor in its trucks for long. A 7.3 power stroke or a new 6.7 would be the good motors.

Or you could swap it with a 5.9 cummins or a 6.7 cummins.

Might need a block heater.

Amazon.

Diesels aren’t like gas motors. You have to wait for the glow plugs to heat up. They’ll be an indicator on your dash (you can just GTS it). That can attribute to your starting problems.

To start a 6.0 diesel you turn the key to “on” and a light on the dash illuminates which says “wait to start”. This will go off in a few seconds and then you turn the key to start. A block heater can definitely help a diesel start in cold weather but unless it’s well below freezing you really shouldn’t need one.

What is the engine doing when you turn the key? Is it cranking? Smoking? Starting and then stopping? Not doing anything?

It’s cranking . Starter seems perfect! No smoking . Not starting! It’s trying to to start. Maybe I have to warm it up...

The truck hasn’t been on for about 3 weeks. Weather at night is average around 40 ish.
