I was just reading an article discussing various factors that influence how people invest. One of these is profession. Please only answer this poll if you are a paid EMS professional.

Sorry it's up now.

I usually drive with a Halloween prop when I drive on the 5 down to San Diego. As for investments... I own a lot of stock. I dated a financial advisor/planner or whatever she was, showed me how to invest and save money.

I use the 401k to max out the company's match. Why turn down free money?

I've now been dabbling in private investments, mainly of mutual funds. I likes me money.

I have County Retirement and I invest in a Roth(that is not a poll option though:sad:)

In my expereience Company 401ks are weak and never enough to actuallt retire off of, that being said it is free money so you should take it. However you need to also invest in a Roth of some sort.

I invest in my 401k. Thats about it. I really should sit down with a money person. I already live pay check to pay check, dont want to do that when im old and batty too.

This is unfortunate, I wish EMS providers in all areas recieved a higher pay and were recognized for there level of education

Damn didn't think about the pension option, my bad.

For the purposes of this poll I think we can just lump a pension and Roth 401k under the 401k option. I'm mainly curious to see how many people take the time to invest in funds/investments outside of those provided by their employer.

Alright, well I voted on that one then.

Pensions wont be around for too much longer... once the general public realizes how much of the budget goes towards paying near pre-retirement salaries to people, they'll stop it.

I think they will stay, Counties and Cities would never be able to hire good staff without good retirement. They pay is never really good, people just go there for the retirement.

Have you started at your new gig yet?

For their level of education... <_<

You mean a field where the average level of education doesn't even match an associates degree? A field where the average provider sees no problem acting like a technician instead of a professional? A field where the average provider doesn't see a need to move past, "You call, we haul, that's all? A field that's flooded with people applying for jobs?
