I finally got an interview with a volly department scheduled for this Thursday. The Rescue Captain called me and was very short and sweet but nevertheless, it is scheduled.

Advice..need some of it...what types of questions should I be expecting from a volly dept?

Dress? I am assuming a suit would be overkill since it is really me 'meeting' with a membership committee and then they will vote me in a few weeks later. Golf shirt and dress pants?

Do fire departments usually have a standard when it comes to facial hair? I have a goatee that is kept clean and short but didnt know what the norm is.

Anything else I should be ready for???

Step, don't plod into the room, be neither eager nor unaffected, establish and maintain eye contact for a moment without demanding more time, relax (1,001, 1,002, 1,003) before replying and don't mention anything about the thing with the pantyhose and the redhead.

It's hard to predict the questions, because the quality of interviewers varies as much as the quality of interviewees. I suggest you think about why you want to volunteer, why you're interested in EMS, and what generic strengths you'd be able to offer any organization.

I agree with adamjh3's comment about suits. I've interviewed and been interviewed a lot, and have never encountered a situation where neat, clean, conservative dress was a disadvantage.

Shave it. I'm sure it's neat and nice but most departments forbid facial hair to some degree, almost purely for safety reasons (facepiece fit). I figure it would be easier to just shave it rather than try to figure out whether your particular style fits in to what may be pretty narrow parameters.
