Hello all. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm contemplating going to the ER in a few days if this keeps up.

For over two weeks, The RIGHT side of my neck has been swollen. No bruising or discoloration. This is accompanied by headaches running up the back of my neck with radiation to my eyes. The neck itself constantly feels sore. Like a pulled muscle. I'd say the soreness is a 3/10. The headaches are a 7/10. I work a 24 hour shift so my pain comes by mid-day, gradually increasing. Upon palpation, i can feel the path of pain the headache takes when im not having them. Massaging it seems to help for about 15 minutes. Sleep seems to help dimish the headaches, however occasiaonally i wake up with the headache. I'm 23 years old, in great shape, no medications, no allergies, no past medical history.

First, welcome to EMTLife.

What would you say to a patient if they had these symptoms?

Are you looking for a field diagnosis?

I'd tell them they need to get to the hospital and get checked out, either with me, or have someone take them.

I just wanted to get some thoughts.

Best advice...'See a doctor!' But you know that already!

Cheers Enjoynz

Get yourself to a doctor...

Don't seek medical advice online! It's asking for trouble!

You are dying. Rapidly. If you see a doctor they can rub their magic doctor ointment on it and save your life. If you wait you will surely croak before the night is over. EMT's and Medics don't have the ointment. Neither does your computer.

why are you still reading? The doctor isn't here.

Edit: why the ED?? If this is an emergency, go to the ED. If you are going to wait, sounds like a case for your PCP. ED's are supposed for emergencies, not general clinical care. People wonder why ED's are so overcrowded and people call 911 for stupid complaints....

Looks like Sasha was right!!^_^

Next time you're dropping off a pt at the hospital, ask a doc. Free medical advice ftw!!!!

>_>

sounds to me like swollen glands, but hey I'm no doctor. If you dont have a PCP maybe you could go to a convenient care facility.

Sasha is right - Online medical advice isn't likely to help.
