Hi

I would be intererested in getting some views on what kind of salary/package paramedics would be looking for to work in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Dubai etc. I am researching what motivates people to work in the middle east in the health sector in terms of pay and conditions.

If you have any advice or know of anyone who has actually done this and the experience they had (any middle east country) I would love to hear form you.

Be good to know

How long would you see as a reasonable commitment (1, 2 3 years etc)
How much would you expect to get paid?
Would you assume accommodation/schooling/airfares paid as part of a contract?

If I knew the website for the Australian armed forces, I'd link you.

That's how you get to working EMS in horrible places like that.

My guess is you make at least enough to pay for the lifelong medical care you'll require when at least three extremities are blown off by a car bomb.

Edit: Although, Dubai is a nice place. Bet they pay extremely well.

But before you move, please, think of the women.

The countries you listed are some of the lower paying of overseas work.

South Africans mainly hold EMS job sin those countries cause the pay is good for their cost of living back home, as an American it sucks.

Dubai hotels hire medics and they are given an apartment typically along with about the equivalent of 2-3K a month US dollars. This is NOT a lot of money to live and work in DUbai, as it is very expensive.

Dubai is safe, I have spent a lot of time there.

Qatar is another lower paying job as well, but a nice enough place to get your feet wet, so to speak. ITTsystems.com currently has the contrcat there, but there are no openings. I am friends with the medics there.

As for Saudi Arabia, again another great starter place, but the pay is low. Everything is provided, but the salary will be around 40K a year.

These jobs typically provide a plane ticket over and a plane ticket home.

The pay is usually direct deposit into your account.

These above countries pay the lowest as they are the safest, but it is where a lot of people go for their first assignment. It is very cushy and if you are single, it is a true adventure as there is some significant downtime and the ability to explore this side of the world.

Now if you want to talk about Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and a bunch of other more hostile countries, let me know as that is where I have spent the past 3 years now.

I'm interested in hearing about it. I still have a long way to go before I'd be eligible but one of those areas sounds quite appealing to me.

Hi

Thanks for that feedback, interesting to hear. It does seem payrates are substantially lower than US in most of these countries even with accommodation etc provided.

I was wondering if pay was equal to the US (and accommodation etc provided) would these areas then be of interest to US paramedics or are there other factors which would not make the UAE an area to consider working in?

I have contacts and a lot of information about working in Israel. Let me know via PM if you are interested.
