Hey everyone, as I sit here in angst over thinking about tonight's upcoming IV lab in medic school (we will start them on each other!), It came back into my head about the things I am willing to do to become a paramedic. My younger brother, who is my best friend, was diagnosed w/ cancer a few years ago at the age of 24, and after sx and chemo x 1.5 yrs, it returned. He had a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection last year on sept 11. I saw him fight the hardest fight that a soul can, and realized that I wanted to be a paramedic to make a difference in someone's brothers (or mom's, dad's, etc..) life. I realize daily that I am lucky just to BE HERE and extra lucky to have been chosen for medic school. I will go through blood, sweat and tears to get it (even though the blood part is going to hurt!) My brother has since reached remission (yay!!) and remains my inspiration to go forward and become the best medic I can be. I was hoping you would want to share your reasons, too for wanting to dedicate your life to this field of making a difference. Take care, be safe!

Hey good for you! Don't worry about IV class, after a few sticks you get used to it... it didn't bother me much so people liked starting IVs on me... I even took a couple people's hands and helped guide the needle in, lol.

I got into this because my Dad was always in the vollie fire department, and later when my dad (and on a separate day, my grandfather) needed an ambulance they were there. I wanted to be there for someone else who needed us.
