Who Comes First?

I agree with what everyone is saying but do you think in an actual situation it would be the same. There are so many other factors that would have to be considered. Just out of pure reaction you may grab a bystander (which is a child) who runs out into traffic, before you realize you jeopardized your own safety. Just a thought.

Depends

If we're talking safety:

1. Me (and my partner if I like them*).
2. My partner if I don't like them.
3. Police/Fire/ED staff.
4. Bystanders
5. Patient.

*I've worked with people who I really felt had my back, clinically, emotional/fatigue/general welfare wise & physically. I'd gladly risk my own safety (to an extent) for them, I know they'd do the same for me.

If we're talking whose interests come first.

1. The patient.
2. Pts family.
3. Police/Fire/ED staff.
4. Bystanders.
5. Me*

*My interests start at 5 and work their way up to number 1 as I become increasingly tired, hungry, bored or pissed off.

My priorities are me, my partner/crew, and then the patient/bystanders. I figure, my partner is looking at things the same way - himself, me, everyone else. Therefore, our priorities meet up at #3, and I am good with that.

Sasha, agreed, but with Firetender's caveat.

More of a guideline than a rule.

Start with objectivity, then see where the envelope needs a stretch. Adult know when a risk it personally acceptable.

I would not be amenable to risking a teammate, though.

Like The Pirates' Code, "More of a guideline than a rule".

Mycrofft. Unfortunately, the code also says if you fall behind you get left behind.

Lol!

Sent from a small, handheld electronic device that somehow manages to consume vast amounts of my time. Also know as a smart phone.

Me
My partner/ Fellow emergency personnel
Bystanders
Patient last

Who comes first, in your mind?

To me:

Me
My Partner
My Patient.

How were you trained? Where I am, we are trained to place the priority as you've stated... but without the only kinda just kidding about the partner piece of it.

I was trained :

Myself
My Partner/Crew
My Patient
Bystanders

In reality for me it is :

My Partner/Crew
Myself
My Patient
Bystanders.
