I have been an EMT-B for 2 years and feel I am ready to move towards getting an Associates in Paramedicine. The only prerequisite I am missing is anatomy and physiology. I work seasonally for the Park Service and as a result I move from job to job every 6 months. Because my work schedule does not mesh with the school semester schedule I can not attend a full semester of in-the-classroom learning to get the course taken. I have taken online courses before but cannot find an accredited online anatomy and physiology. Does anyone know where I can find one of these?

you cant, they are both Lab classes. you may beable to find some 8 week classes though next winter.

Many community colleges offer these classes over the summer. It will be harder because the material is presented over a shorter period of time, but maybe you can get through it without having to move.

I know the feeling about having to jump around because of school, been there done that my self. But for anatomy and physiology, you need to take it on campus. The labs reinforce what the lectures have to offer. Don't try and skip around it.

I wish it were easy like sociology, psychology, or human development that you can take online, but knowing anatomy and physiology is going to be 90% of your job. Plus I have a friend of mine that took anatomy and physiology with me that is now in the paramedic program. He got a C in the class and he is paying for it now.

If you don't take it during a summer semester, then you are up a creek. As an instructor of nursing level Anatomy & Physiology I and II, I will definitely tell you that you do not want to take this course on any kind of accelerated pace.

Here's another option (Canadian university)

Fees here:

About $1500 canadian (about the same US nowadays). I took this course in 1998. It was ok then (it also cost $670). This is a full-year course (*6)

The most important thing to do, whatever option you take, is to talk to the university that you're trying to get your associates through, and get permission to take the course. It doesn't matter if you go to Harvard to take the course, if you haven't got permission beforehand, your home university may refuse to give you transfer credit. Check with them first.

Wow these courses almost sound too good to be true. Bstone have taken any of these classes? I'm really liking the idea. A little pricey but still an awesome way of doing it.

I agree, these courses are excellent.

I know a few people (all premeds) who took medical biochemistry. They said it really helped prepare them for med school.

Check with your director and see what specific A&P program they require for the degree. I'm doing NVCC's program. They ask for NAS 150, human biology. This class was 100% online, and required no labs. So was HLT 250, general pharmacology. NAS 161 and 162, which are nursing prereqs, required labs, but the didactic can be taken online as well. Actually, quite a few colleges offer online versions of their traditional courses. You just need to find a testing center if you're not driving distance from the college.
