I am considering starting my first semester of EMT-B classes during my last semester of high school but I'm still not 100% sure which route to take. I only have 4 classes this year (which obviously shouldn't be too hard but since school just started up again it's too early to tell how much homework. etc.). But I'm not sure if it would benefit me to get a jump start or if it would be better to just wait until I can focus on the EMT class. If anyone could give some insight I'd appreciate it :)

This should probably be moved to the education and training section. Just noticed it after I posted.

Wait to focus. It won't be that long. Professional school is very important, but not nearly as important as finishing high school. Getting that diploma is your prime directive right now.

Why jump start? Many true emergency places won't hire anyone <21 years of age. Finish school, have fun, mature and then go to college. Take some collegiate level science courses. Then and only then, you are still intrested in EMS; come back and discuss with us and talk in person to those in the field.

Your interest may be peaked in other areas, or may remain the same. No matter, EMS will be here for you, if you are really interested. Reviewing acredited Paramedic programs, and then entering them with some real science under your belt will help you immensely. Much more than EMT experience.

Don't worry; you will get experience. There are a shortage of Paramedics, not experienced EMT's.
