When people call you "JUST A VOLUNTEER"

Does it annoy anyone else when people say " oh you're JUST a volunteer? " or you're not a "real emt" cus you're not paid? Like people outside of EMS who don't know anything about it. I guess they don't understand its all the same ..
 
What you are experiencing is the backlash of membership in what is often a proudly unreliable, ignorant and entitled group.
 
I'm paid. Maybe they are saying it because they are shocked that they received excellent patient care from someone who is unpaid to do it? :)
 
Why do you care so much about what people think and say?
 
Never heard anything like that. Maybe it's because our area relies so heavily on volunteer ems and fire organizations.
 
Never heard it locally. But we've made the improvement of not having volunteer services for the most part in my areas
