I have seen that they are coming in 2011 and that they are coming in 2014...I am thinking about taking the EMT-I85 exam but dont want to waste the time if the certification is going to tossed aside in a few months. It is 2011 or 2014????

Us I/85s transition almost directly over to AEMT, so don't worry too much about that. I think I was told 2014, but I'm too lazy to go look it up right now

In before the lock

The simple version:

2011 will be the last year of Intermediate National Registry and there will be NO recerts, so everyone should lapse by 2014.

The vague language does seem to imply that, at the state level, it may continue to live... I can definitely see how fire services would get behind something like this.

I heard 2014 but that there was no onus upon any state to adopt the new levels and framework.

It's not that the EMT-I will be 'tossed aside', it will simply change names.

The EMT-I (I/85) will be called NRAEMT (Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician). According to the NREMT site, this will take place in 2014.
