There has been alot of talk about Care and I want to see what everyone is hearing on the streets.

Ive heard they are going after some new contracts and they want to get paramedics.

Dude, you've asked the same question in multiple threads. All this talk of medics is most likely due to the Costa Mesa issues where they wanted a private ALS provider, Care tried to start a medic program years ago, to the point of hiring medics and having a unit in the back of their deployment. It didn't get approved for whatever reason and was put on hold. Care has always been very aggressive pursuing contracts and sometimes has been frowned upon for it.

...and according to some of my OC contacts, they are being investigated for attempted bribery of Costa Mesa officials...

they have been telling everyone they are "starting a medic program" for at least 5 years, which is how long ago i got hired there. yea, they have paramedics on the payroll but but they cant act as a paramedic. yes they have a few LP10s but those are locked up and havent seen the light of day in quite some time. yea they where just bought by a much larger company which is a direct competitor for AMR, but i doubt they will be able to take any of those so cal contracts due to the volume of paramedics they would have to hire over night. they may however have a chance at moving into the san diego rural areas first and then start branching out to other ALS areas.

Im with medictruth on this one, I heard they're acquiring new contracts as well as trying to buy out one or more companies

What I dont understand is whats the hold up. Why dont the get some paramedics on the streets. I just dont understand their logic. What are they waiting for.

Paramedics cost money, and it is more lucrative to have basics transport emergency than medics to transport non-emergency in la co.

sent from my mobile command center. or phone. whatever.

I understand they cost money, but its a market they could greatly expand into. I guess its just a waiting game to see whats going to happen. With all the budget cuts and cities looking for alternatives to save money its only a matter of time before the private industry makes its mark on the EMS delivery system.

If you looked at places outside of CA, it already has :p. I work in a county that has private do almost 100% of EMS response and it works well for us.
