Ok guys/gals, this has been bothering me and I need some advice. In school I've always scored an A or B on my exams and always passed my skills tests the first try, but when I'm around the instructors or just veteran emts and medics I just Don't know everything they do that's related to the job such as the the possible moi's or noi's, sometimes I think " what the hell does that mean?" is this normal for a newbie? Or am I really supposed to know every inch of the EMT handbook?

The rookie road.

At first, you usually learn to pass. Even if you start intending to learn so you know what to do, you still usually keep your primary focus on passing. That means if you didn't really fully understood the concepts, you still got the words right.

And then there's the part where you actually APPLY what you've learned! That's where the rubber meets the road. I would guess you're experiencing fear, uncertainty and despair WNL.

Hopefully you're learning what you didn't learn. Go learn and practice, and preferably before you have to do it on a live human being.

That really makes sense, thanks for clearing that up

Give yourself a break. In the world of EMS you are still in grade school. Everyday is going to be a learning experience. I have been doing EMS for over 30 years. I am still learning and forgetting things.
