hi folks, i have applied to quite a few Part Time EMT-B positions, and i was told by a few of them that i should expect a call back soon. Well, when i was dropping off my Resume and Cover letter to an EMS agency, i got a chance to sit down 1 on 1 with the EMS Director, and the gentleman explained to me that part time at their agency means you are basically on stand by, and that you are not really guaranteed hours every week. Is that what Part Time in this field usually means?

It depends on the company.

Sometimes part-time means a set schedule that is <40 hours/wk and generally without benefits.

Sometimes it means what the director said, although I would call that per diem.

My guess might be that you mis heard them when they said part time/ per diem, which at the few places I've been is onset schedule, but you have to work 24 hours at least a month. Part time is a set schedule, usually 16-24 hours a week

Yeah, that's not part time, that's considered "casual" here. Part time requires you to have a certain amount of scheduled shifts totaling less than 162 hours per month on a regular basis.
