Briefly describe your department's/service's EMS delivery model (FD, Third Service, Private, etc): County based EMS system in western NC with 8 24 hour trucks.
What is your approximate run volume? Our call volume is approximately 15-16k calls a year.
Who does QA/QI at your department/service? Sergeants on every shift are responsible for reviewing every call run during that shift. Our LT and CPT can also see and review the call. If the Sgt decides that the call needs to be reviewed, he or she will elevate it for further review. Every quarter, our agency conducts a formal review process with the medical director, training officer, Sgt from every shift, and other outside agencies come together to review the system and review calls. It seems to work well and if calls are questionable appropriate actions are taken. Additionally, all use of narcotics and RSI/airway and codes are reviewed by our agency training officer.
