I am in college and going to be getting my emt b certification next year (may) after I am done completing the course. At my college, we have an emt club where students who have been certified at emt bs and paramedics do shifts everyday to help the college community, ie sick students, drunk students, major emergencies etc. I was wondering where I could purchase uniforms and equipment? I am not an emt yet, but will be a first responder within a month. I just want to know what equipment I could/should purchase in order to be able to help out on shifts. Thanks so much.

Ask and see if they issue anything. Chances are you don't need to buy anything on your own. Except maybe some black pants or blue pants. But if the inner whacker in your must come out

EMT Club? How does that work?

For uniform stores in the boston area, the two that pop into my mid are simon's uniform in lynn and doughboys uniform in revere. I'd check out a meeting or two of the emt club and ask around to see what if anything is issued/what you'll need to personally get before you rush out and buy anything other than EMT pants, boots, and a decent stethoscope (i agree with the "you don't need to buy a scope since one will be in the jump bag on the ambo' crowd, but personal preference and not wanting to stick something on my ears that have been in som many others' ears led me to buy my own

I don't remember the addresses off hand, and don't feel like looking them up at the moment, so you'll have to google them if you don't know them already

What college or university do you go to? Few schools in the area have "EMT Clubs" but many have some form of QRS or EFR staffed by EMTs, either for campus coverage or only special events/details. If you haven't started your course yet, you really dont have any use or purpose for uniforms or equipment, wait until you become certified to start thinking about this, and wait until you join to learn what you may actually need/use, which I doubt will be any.
If you're interested in more information about collegiate EMS in the Boston area, shoot me a PM.

You definiately shouldnt need anything until you get your certs. Maybe get a pair of black or blue pants for your clinicals but you shouldnt need those until you are well into you training.

Also most companies, municipalities, or college EMS tell you to go to a specific store or online place to get your uniform. I know there is a store in lowell that exclusivly does all the uniforms for the two major ambulance companies in the lowell/lawrence area plus the local pd and fd.

so you should look into before wasting any money on a uniform you will not be allow to wear.

Make sure you have a Teddy Bear for your Peds :P

My EMT training program has a strict uniform policy. Black khakis, black polo, black belt, black leather shoes that "must be worn at all times during class and ride alongs"

this store is not really in the boston metro area, more like the worcester area. it's called Trippi's Uniforms. it's on route9 in shrewsbury. i go here for when i need sweaters, shirts, boots, and one time i got my stethescope from here.

Doughboys on Neponset Ave in the Dorchester section of Boston, or AAA police supply on Rt 1 Dedham.

I second. Be prepared to show identification if you are buying patches from AAA, however. While Doughboys is general uniform supply, AAA is almost entirely police equipment and supplies and limited EMS uniforms...

OP, what school are you attending?
