Why not just keep some in a cooler full of ice? Much cheaper and effective as hell.

Exactly. Cheap and very effective. We either throw the NS bags on the dash with the AC cranked up or have a cooler full of ice we keep them in. Depends on the truck and how hot it is outside. We may use the ice cubes to keep us cool :)

...or you can just pop a disposable instant ice pack and wrap the tubing around it a few times.

The problem is when the state comes to inspect your equipment and they are like... ok show me the policy that allows your styrofoam 7-11 cooler to be used as a medical storage device.

We have coolers that we use for blood and the lab has an absolute fit about them because they are required such strict documentation surrounding the use of said coolers.

Then you find whatever model cooler the local OPO uses and go with that.

We use the Engel, it works great. The fluids are checked daily and temp is maintained at 34 degrees F, something you can't do in a bucket of ice or on the dash with the A/C running.

We've got the Engels on the trucks as well, they work great as coolers but have caused numerous electrical issues due to the amperage draw when the truck is off and plugged into a shore line.

We use Engel units at one of my jobs. Keeps 3-4 liter bags of NSS and our Cardizem/Ativan at a constant temp. No issues. It's in a locked cabinet because of the drugs, and the temp is checked every 12 hours at narc count.
