Update on NC paramedic who was shot
ASHEVILLE – It took two surgeries, but doctors have removed the bullet fired into the chest of a paramedic in Madison County.
Tami Stephen was released Tuesday from Mission Hospitals.
Detective Scott Gaddy of the Madison County Sheriff's Department said Stephen learned her lungs appeared to be clear of the fluid that had built up and caused her readmission to the hospital after her initial release.
Gaddy said doctors performed two surgeries after readmitting her. They successfully removed the bullet Sunday on their second try, he said.
