So to not bog this down with my whole life story, I was a licensed EMT-Basic back in 2007. I worked about 9 months till life and work got intermingled not to mention some REALLY bad stuff happened outside of work at the same time things got bad at work as well. In the end, I was without an EMT job, tried finding one for 2 years, with no luck and not sure how to keep my license going it lapsed. Put me in a really depressed state ...

Fast forward a few years and I regained my drive to get back into the field and regained my license this last March and then started up with the Paramedic program. Since then I have been applying at every EMS service, any ER Tech, Monitor Tech, Patient Care Tech job I could find to no avail. Only had 2 interviews the rest of the applications just seem to make their way into the circular file.

I am finished the Paramedic program yet I have not taken my boards, though I am still in the same no medical job boat. I am volunteering once a week with New Orleans EMS but I need a medical job, I need to be in the field. I can't work volunteer all week long ... I need an income. The whole situation has me extremely frustrated to say the least.

Was wondering if anyone around here had any thoughts that might help, maybe avenues I have not looked into that might be good?

Also to note, I am perfectly willing to work for a company as an ER Tech or any job like that for a while as I would like to get a good solid starting point in the medical field even if it is not in EMS as it will aid my getting back into EMS in the future.

I know for the NREMT your Paramedic program completion essentially expires after 2 years if you do not successfully take the NREMT. So don't let it laspe, go test for your medic.
In terms of jobs, if your having no luck in your area, consider relocating for a while. You can apply for plenty of jobs all around the nation on emsworld.com jems.com ems1.com monster.com careerbuilder.com ect ect. Firstly, I would get your paramedic cert.

Also you said your in New Orleans? I know Acadian is hiring paramedics, in fact they are offering $10,000 sign on/relocation bonuses for some positions! $7,500 for others. www.acadian.com I am not from the area, but I only hear good things about them for a private company.

I saw on the New Orleans website that they are hiring for EMT. What is the chance of you getting hired on there since you already volunteer for them?

I feel your pain I'm on the coast, I recently got my NREMT back and cannot find a job to save my life! I've been trying to get into the VIGOR program, submitted my info on there website as well, how long does it usually take for them to contact you about it?

PM me if you want with the places you've applied to maybe we can compare and see if either of us have missed a place
