The Basic / Medic Relationship

Is there a generalization for the relationship that exists between Medics and Basics? For the short period I spent in the field the difference seemed clear, but that could be regional.

I'm in a county that requires Medic/Medic for an ALS unit, and I did rotations on both ALS and BLS units. I noticed that often basics and medics really stayed to themselves, similar to the doctor/nurse relationship.

Anyone else?
