...I've never been a good test taker, and was wondering what kinds of things would help prepare me for tests? I study and study like no tomorrow..I also write out notes…Any advice would be great!

Thanks

my friend is taking his EMT-P right now and he's done previous testing and the whole registration process the one pointer he told me is that, if you go in nervous you'll more than likely freeze and fail. So i'm guessing if you go in calm and relaxed you'll do fine. Also second guessing your Tx is bad aswell (can someone confirm that?).

Yes... your first instinct is ALWAYS your best instinct.. Ive also found that Most that take the test if they use the entire time (IE all 2hours or so) they have frozen up or dont know the material and fail.... 80percent of the people I have spoken to have told me they failed it and they used the entire time.. I passed my first go.... 20minutes with rereading and rechecking was all it took.

Dont cram either... The Human brain freezes up and it confuses you, take one full night to go over the materials then rest if you stress you over exert yourself and thusly tire... eat the morning of..contrary to popular belief it HELPS (I grabbed a mcgriddle and hashbrown from McDonalds heh) Remember there is a second chance..

I cant study and study... I was one of the genius' that sat in class listened and imbeded it to memory If I cram and study I forget....

For EMTBasic here are the areas to focus on...

(I just took it a few months back they change the test every year heh photographic memory)
EMS operations
OB/PED
Medical
Trauma
cardiology
Airway/Breathing

The questions are more scenerio what would you do then definitions.... Go for the MOST right... One of them was along the lines of "you help deliver a child after removal of the placenta you notice the mother is still bleeding what do you do?"
Remember ABCs I dont know HOW many "you arrive on the scene of...." and it was suction ect ect 15lpm" If it has 15lpm you can almost guaruntee it was right...

A few things in regard to the systolic pressure is.....
Or the aoorta does what...

But like 95percent was of scenerios (which I hated) basically what would you do if your in that position.. Dont second guess.. if you dont know right then make a note by that number and move on... then come back to it if you strain yourself it worsens it.

When I took the FR test, it was mainly scenarios. Just pick the one that makes the most logical sense. Avoid changing your answer. The first one that you pick (your gut instinct) is usually correct.

Thank you all

Awsome,
Thanks for the advice..This HELPs ALOT!!!

Hugs:)

Hiya :)

My advice is similiar to what others have said... Only because I did the wrong thing and by the grace of God I still managed to pass. I crammed like mad the night and day before the test, I barely slept. I was still cramming in the parking lot ten minutes before the test started (I tested at night). I was delirious, shaky from caffeine overdose, and in general nervous. My teacher basically told me to have faith in what I knew... He knew that I knew my stuff. He also told us not to second guess ourselves.

I followed his advice. I didn't second guess myself, but the most important thing to do is read and reread each question. They can be worded so wierdly...

From what I've heard, the lowest scoring sections of NR are Airway, OB, and Peds. My lowest was Airway. And I studied Airway like you wouldn't believe.

Best of luck to ya!
