In a week I'll be teaching a 3 hour class (1.5 hrs and 1.5 of hands-on time / skills) on neurotrauma for my SAR teams "Advanced First Responder" course. The class is at a level between First Responder and EMT-B.

Any suggestions? I like to punctuate my lecture with activities, step away from the powerpoint for a few minutes and do something different to keep it interesting and appeal to other styles of learning. Any ideas on how I could this? For example, when teaching the stages of shock I demonstrated estimation of blood loss with a shirt and a bunch of red food coloring + water.

Why?, is this anything like PHTLS or you guys going to be doing any neuro surgery as well.

How about we bring poster "atropine" to class and whack him on the head and observe the effects. Nothing like real life experience. I am sure there are thousands of people wiling to take his place on the FD while he is gone, because of the sheer volume of applicants.
:P

all in jest.

From me - Perl, numbness/tingling/ CSM(PMS). ya know... the basics. and check for CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) from the ears

from my wife (a Neuro RN) - CSM, visual changes (halo's in vision/blurred or double vision), headache/pressure in skull feeling.

ooo... and DON't move impaled rebar from the skull. brain hemorrhaging will probably occur.
