http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/british-scientists-to-create-synthetic-blood-1651715.html

A major research project is to be announced this week that will culminate in three years with the first transfusions into human volunteers of "synthetic" blood made from the stem cells of spare IVF embryos. It could help to save the lives of anyone from victims of traffic accidents to soldiers on a battlefield by revolutionising the vital blood transfusion services, which have to rely on a network of human donors to provide a constant supply of fresh blood.

Very interesting. I wonder how it will be stored. We may be able to carry this.

I bolded the source since pro-lifers may have a problem with this.

Why? Spare, to me, usually says unused. I don't get why people are so against using something that will never have a life to possibly prolong the life of someone else.

I am not pro life and not have a problem with stem cell research.

It will be interesting to see if this succeeds. From how I read it, they are trying to grow RBCs using stem cells to create an unlimited supply of O negative blood. If it succeeds it could really change how things are done. If it does happen though, I can't imagine it being pre-hospital for at least several years, if not 10 or more.

Notice how this cutting edge research is not being done in the US because of a funding ban.

I guess all that money we spend on research "for others to benefit" really isn't all that true.

But it has come to be normal for the US to discount what the rest of the world is doing and still claim they are the best at everything. I am definately not anti US, but come on... While the US is worried about stopping gay people from getting married or creationism instead of evolution, and everyting government is "evil socialist" NHS is helping fund programs like this.

Then people wonder when they tour the homes of AIG executives why there is such a disparity between wealthy and poor in the US. If you are in EMS you have a better chance of hitting the lottery than making a 6 figure salary. Dostoevsky was a genious, master/slave relationship intact and strong. Sad really.

Then as countries where people are working together instead of simply for themsleves (though they do see some self benefit) advances in education and medicine to name a few outstrip the US and we cannot figure out why there are no jobs, trillion dollar deficits, the value of the currency dropping, (making prices go up) and it is economical to outsource.

why do I waste my time trying to explain this. I hould start charging for it. At least passing around a donation plate.
