I've been a working Firefighter/EMT-B for a little over a year and a half. I have applied to southwest ambulance a total of four times, only been invited to interview the third time. I have a possible interview coming up and I'm wondering what kind of questions they may ask? I have 3 scenario questions that I remember from my last interview with them. I will give you the question, followed by the answer I gave.
1. If you saw your partner using an improper lifting technique with a patient on a stretcher, what would you do?
My answer was to inform him in a positive way after I saw him do it and not in front of the patient.
2. Youre in the back of the ambulance, your paramedic partner is busy elsewhere and you notice your patitient is breathing at a rate of over 25 breaths a minute. What do you do?
My answer, put the patient on O2 via NRB and start a new assessment, searching for theproblem I would also try and coach the patient down to breath deep and slower.
3. You transport a patient from a hospice to a hospital for a non emergency reason. When you arrive at the hospital, they tell you they did not receive a notice and do not have a bed available at this time. What do you do for the patient?
I said I would reassure them that everything is OK and that I would stay with them until the problem got resolved.
What would be better answers to these questions? Obviously something was wrong with my answers because I wasn't hired the last time. Any help and info would be greatly appreciated. If you could provide any other questions you think they might ask, please include them. Thanks.
