I'm surprised you haven't heard of this. It's been around for a long time, and has been pretty well-marketed.

Plagiocephaly can be prevented by allowing your infant plenty of belly time while awake and not just keeping your baby confined to a crib or carrier. Back is best for baby's sleep... not 24/7.
 
My kids were tummy sleepers.

At least until those cute gill covers grew shut in the back.
I remember hearing about honey, second hand cigarette smoke, prenatal drug use, genetic predispositions to cardiac and respiratory trouble, etc.
