Shouldn't have felt disrespected?

I just had an interviewee tailgate me all the way into our parking lot, while watching them fool around with their paperwork while driving...
They were showing yo there driving abilities and multitasking skills. Its part of the interview yeah?

I just.... I just don't get some people.

Beat it to death.... Wrong!

And then to act like you took the high road by not taking the offer, having no idea how lucky you were to even get that offer.

So many feels... None of them good.

It opens the spot up for someone who might actually appreciate a chance to learn what an EMT does.

I doubt you even know what an EMT does. If you did know what this job is really about, you wouldn't have been offended by the question.

You would be surprised at how many PA school applicants fumble over the question "why do you want to be a PA" or "why PA over MD"

"Because I hate school and PA school is just a hair shorter"

Because I screwed up insurance is really expensive

You're absolutely wrong.

Gauging a job prospect's response to basic questions about what they think the primary responsibilities will be is completely reasonable. If I were interviewing someone for an EMT position and asked this question, I'd be looking more for answers that emphasized customer service and compassion and didn't mention anything about lifesaving or heroism.
Agreed 100% !
I have had the same question asked. They are looking for customer service, patient advocacy, teamwork, etc.

To echo everyone else here, no you should not have felt disrespected. That is a standard interview question in many fields, not just EMS. However, judging from your attitude that you attended "months of lecture" to become an EMT and somehow because you sat in a class you deserve all this respect, you seem to have NO idea what an EMT does. If a simple interview question offends you so much you have to go to a message board to complain about it, then you possibly lack the maturity required for this type of job. Your months of lectures only give you a taste of what EMS is about. They gave you the book knowledge of the job and nothing else. EMS is very much about practical knowledge as well. If you lack EITHER, you will fail. If you thinking being an EMT is only about performing patient assessments, driving the ambulance and assisting the paramedic, you are sorely mistaken. The fact that you would get so offended over a simple question seems to show you are not mentally prepared for the job. You will be dealing with people who say things that actually will offend you. You will deal with people that actually want to hurt you. You will deal with the segment of society nobody likes to talk about who will cuss you out, hurl insults at you, become violent towards you while you have to stand there and respond in a professional manner. Sometimes, even if you are professional, they still call to complain about you. Not everyone can handle all the stress of EMS. I am not saying that you are unable to do the job, but you need to watch your attitude. Do not become "that guy" who believes he is so lofty and above his patients that he makes the rest of us look bad.
