We recently talked about providers wearing shorts onscene in another thread: http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?p=25570

Here is how things work with me:

Where I volunteer…. We wear uniforms when on station for duty shifts (first 2 crews). Overnight is “casual” – some wear scrubs, some wear jeans… it is OK.

Providers who cover 3rd, 4th, 5th calls aren’t really held to any uniform standard…. They come in to cover a call. Last week, I had a member who was exercising in our gym take a call with me. She drove. In shorts and a t-shirt. Out of breath from the treadmill.

We have some bunker gear…. But it isn’t well organized. Some of us wear it, some don’t.

At my other volunteer Co, where I don’t run actively right now… We all have bunker gear, and it is on the Ambulance with us for every run. You wear it for MVA’s. You also wear bunker gear or a jumpsuit over shorts.

At my full-time Security/EMT job – uniforms – white button down shirts and Navy pants with blue stripe. April-October, we wear short-sleeves and no tie, October-April; we wear long-sleeve shirts and a clip-on tie.

At My part-time Ambulance Co - we have a uniform policy that specifies a button-down shirts and EMS pants 24x7x365. On Events, the shirt is either an Event EMS polo shirt or sweatshirt. Shorts are permitted on “outdoor events” during warm weather. I usually wear pants for evening events or “reasonable” days… if temp is above 80 degrees and I’ll be outside all day – I’ll wear shorts and black walking sneakers.

Regarding the picture I posted, I wasn't too concerned about the shorts and tee. What made it look funny was helmet. No arial operations, no real dangers of knockin' your noggin' against anything and no one else wearing one. That combined with the jersey shorts, tshirt and sneakers just made it funny.

yes it was funny Chimpie

but there's a wide chasm bettween funny and what people feel is inappropriate

wouldn't you agree?

Yes, I concur.

You guys allowed to wear shorts? Lucky people. We are not and we work in over 100 degree weather.

you guys have a station house to stay in right, untill u get a call?

They are strict here, but we have no volunteer programs at all. We are given polo shirts for the daytime which has to be worn with black pants and boots, and for the night we have blue jumpers with relective markings on them. Nothing else is allowed, if you show up without the uniforms you go home.

I've gotta blue jump suit, i think i look more like a 6' blueberry in it...

I am a blueberry too!!! Sometimes a strawberry.

If I'm not on paid duty.. I'll show up in what ever I'm wearing. If that's a problem, I usually stay home and listen. Whatever I figure, I see enough while I'm getting paid to be scarred for life.

gee, Gall's is leading the fashion wave in ems, check out the ems thong

At work we have our polo's and uni pants...when I run with the FD I wear jeans and whichever tshirt I have on...but I dont go to calls in shorts...too much chance to get myself hurt on something/someone else.

Only reason we can wear shorts is "Warm Weather, Outdoor, Event Standbys"

I will say there is a big disadvantage to this... when you step in/on a beer cup, it goes on your sock and leg, not trousers.... ;) - I was cursing up a storm when that happened....
