Serene Branson Stroke?

Didn't see it, but plenty of news reports have come out saying she did not have a stroke. By most accounts she was checked out on set, and was driven home by a co-worker.

There are further explanations besides a stroke, and it is possible that she has a chronic issue that she already knows about and doesn't wish to disclose.

Strokes in young people are not all that uncommon. i am not saying that is what happened here (I didn't read the story and have no idea who we are talking about) but its not a good idea to believe that strokes are an issue reserved for the elderly.

News anchor had a brief period of fluent aphasia while on the air covering the Grammy's.

I don't doubt that strokes happen in the younger set more frequently than the public thinks. Since she opted to be driven home by a co-worker and didn't go to the ER I strongly suspect that she has a known medical condition and that is why she didn't go in to the ER by ambulance.

Just like chest pain, denial can be a powerful motivator. She might also have gotten some reassurance from those examining her at the scene initially this is probably nothing. People seem to cling on to any positive words which is why it is wise to choose your words carefully when with a patient. In this situation she supposedly was told by Paramedics that her vitals were fine. Embarrassment is another source of denial and in this situation it occurred in a very public place and EMS was called.

The Stroke journal has some excellent articles about strokes involving young people including pediatrics.

It is now not that uncommon to have 2 or 3 patients between the ages of 20 to 30 in our Neuro ICU each week for stroke symptoms that may require intervention or even lead to permanent diability.

The brain is very complex and sometimes it has a way of giving early warning signs when there is something wrong which does not necessarily have to be a stroke but can still be something very serious. We have also had people who have been in the ED with TIAs and went home feeling fine only to have a major stroke or seizure a few days later. Some problems can be difficult to detect and require an extensive workup.

Hopefully she does get a full check up with a physician which may even include a neurologist.
