So I understand why burns to the face and neck are considered critical, but why to the hands and groin? Can't find an answer anywhere.

Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered. ..

High likelihoods of deformity and infection, loss of ability to use a toilet or other self-care, severe pain just post-insult and during rehab if any.

As myc stated.

Also, burns to the hand and feet depending on severity are considered to impair quality of life. The loss of a hand or function/feeling in a hand is far more life changing than a spot on your back.

The critical areas mentioned have the most significant impact to quality of life if "functionality" is compromised.
