Hi! I'm really interested in the prospect of riding along on EMS. I'm a WFR, and really interested in emergency medicine. I'm finishing a PhD and trying to get into med school, but I'd like to spend some time in the field, riding along on EMS for my personal development. I've done a ride along in the city I live in, but we have several paramedic colleges in close to where I live and the EMS services require that you be a student at the college to ride along with them. They made an exception for me.

I live a few hours from Detroit, and a few hours from Buffalo. I can drive anywhere within a few hours radius of these cities. Have car will drive. :)

But how do I go about arranging this? Cold calls? Email? Is it easier to get in to ride with a big city or small town?

Cheers!!

Usually, you would call the agency, department, whatever you would like to call it and ask if they support ride along's as not all agencies do.This is because insurance companies will not cover anyone on an ambulance except the EMT's themselves.some Agencies have to go through lawyers and insurance companies to cover observers and that when companies "will" support a ride along for someone interested in Emergency Services. However, calling up your EMS agency would be best.
