Retro first aid kits... what to do?

So I have two retro-esque metal first aid kits that I kind of want to restore but don't know how to proceed. Both have surface rust and need a good repainting but I don't know which products to use or where to go for it.

If it helps any, I have access to a sandblasting cabinet and a parkerizing tank (good knowing other friends that are into guns!). Notice the old medical supplies in the second tin, I love the old style packaging.

I would leave them as they are, unless you plan to use them. Restoring them will take away their character.

Well, they aren't worth that much as it is. They do have significant cool value though and I want to turn one into a vehicle kit.

I also have thoughts about making one into a pistol box as well, hehe.

I think I would seal the outside with a clear lacquer of some kind to prevent any further rust but maintain the "vintage" look that they have going on. If you restore them they are just going to look like copies that you can buy at any gun show.
