I currently work in New Jersey as an EMT. I was thinking of applying to FDNY EMS. In order to do that, I need to apply for reciprocity, which I have the phone number to do that. My question is, after applying for reciprocity for New York state, will I still have a valid EMT certification in New Jersey as well? I was always confused as to exactly how this works. I also assume you have to pay a fee for this as well. Thanks.

Sure, you should be able to have a valid NJ certification until it expires unless NJ requires something silly like a local agency to sponser you. Until the end of March, I'm dual certified in California and Massachusetts.

I paid 25 dollars to ny state for my reciprocity.

I think we have automatic reciprocity for EMTs.

Still not sure all of what's required, but I found this website that lists (fairly) recent state by state EMS offices for reciprocity. Hope it helps, I may be using it in the near future. :p
