Hey everyone,
So in the past I have always just done the refresher and all of my con ed. However I am currently working out of state and I will not be able to obtain my con ed. So my question is this, if I recert. by exam would I be taking the test under the NRAEMT curriculum. Also do I still need con ed or a refresher? I just talked to the actual NREMT, and got little feed back on the situation.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hello Ryan,

I can't tell you what it is like for ALS personnel, however I have done my recert twice now through the Recert By Exam method and love it. You pay the fee, then they will produce an Authorization To Test letter that you print out to take with you to a Pearson Vue test center, take the test and pass, they then will send you an abbreviated recert form (1 page) to fill out with your current NREMT number, your name and address and all that jazz, and then you have to have a training officer check and sign you off on the different skills/scenarios and sign your form as well as the head training officer and/or medical director of your organization. Oh, you also have to be current in your BLS. Once again this is just for EMT. I don't know how ALS level work regarding NREMT by exam. I would think they would be similar. I got my results on the NREMT website within a couple of days and my card in about a week and a half. It seemed pretty easy to me. That is just my opinion! Hope this helps.

With my aging and decrepit memory, I believe that FlyBoyEMT is spot on.

I also prefer to retest because of the limited hours of "distributed content" permitted for CE... I live in a rural area. Conferences are far and few between, so physically attending them is not real practical. Retesting is a more affordable and time-saving process in my case.

For my NREMT-P, the only additional piece of information I can recall was providing a copy of ACLS card along with the CPR.
