Before Christmas, I had interviewed for a part-time job with a rural FD to staff their ambulance ALS. Today I went back to do scenarios and write a run sheet.

My first scenario was a peds arrest, and my second one was an adult arrest. Once we were done with everything, I asked the medic evaluating me how I did on the peds arrest. I knew I didn't get everything perfect on the adult arrest, but was concerned about how the peds arrest went, mostly because I have never done one, and had a couple moments where I knew I forgot some things.

He was nice enough to take the time to go over everything with me on both scenarios. Basically, he said that the biggest thing for me was time management. Stuff that should have been done in 2 minutes, I was getting done in 3-4 minutes instead, but I did do everything. He asked me a few questions "off the record" and then talked to me "medic-to-medic" rather than "interviewer-to-interviewee", giving me a few pointers that will really be helpful in the future.

He then proceeded to tell me that they had only called back medics that had at least one year of street experience for the scenarios. I was the only exception. I had really impressed him at the first interview, so he insisted they call me back. He also told me that he will be sending me an email in the next couple days regarding the next step, which should be a meeting with the medical director. (This department is in a different county than my full-time gig, so different medical director and slightly different protocols.)

I was just really excited and wanted to share with everyone.

Ah girl... someday you will see yourself as we see you.... yes you are new.. but you are enthusiastic and interested in advancing your learning. You are a thinking medic and I have no doubt that you will be a great one. I guess the interviewer picked up on that too....

congrats....i hope i can only bring myself to one day assume the same post. with my knowledge and enthusiasm.... :)

Congratulations.

Great job, Epi-Do!! You sound a lot like me, a hard-working, thinking girl who wants to make a difference, and you are! I hope that with some experience under my belt I can also be in the place you are now. I have gotten jobs in the past due to my outgoing, always willing to learn personality, and sometimes employers like that better than a year (or several) of experience anyway. You sound like a very intelligent, kind-hearted person who really wants to help change people's outcome. You are everything a lot of us here hope to be! So you go, Girl! Good Luck, and Let us know how it goes!:)
