I am retaking my EMT-P practicals tomorrow because I failed on my first attempt during the rapid trauma assessment station. In doing some research,I discovered that it was very possible that the reason I failed was because I did not initiate IV therapy for my patient.During class,I was taught that even at an advanced level exam for NREMT, you treat the Patient the same way you would as EMT-basic exam.So my question is this. Are you supposed to start IV therapy as soon as you discover signs and symptoms of shock during "apparent life threats" or the "circulation" portion of ABC's and "major bleeds".I was also told by another source that you are to wait until after you finish your head to toe assessment before you begin IV.So since my Re-take is tomorrow,I am quite nervous about my exam and want to complete all skills correctly. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.
