If one were to have a heart monitor and no problems at all can they still work as an EMT. My little brother had a loop recorder implanted in his chest about a year ago and he wants to follow my footsteps to be an EMT. His doctor put him on a diet and exercise program and his is as healthy as a horse no problems what so ever just has the monitor in his chest. It is not a pacemaker or a defibrilator just a monitor, so my question is can he work in EMS???

He should ask his doctor. People don't get monitors if they're perfectly healthy.

His doctor cleared him to work, he has been working ever since his recovery. I was just not sure if a service would let him join with it.

How would a service know about it?

I'm sure there are quite a few medics out there with pacers in them so I doubt a monitor would automatically disqualify him. As far as whether he's physically able to do the job that's between him and his doctor.

I know with Medstar they do a treadmill test where they hook up a heart monitor so they would probably see the scar.

That is good to know I will let him know to talk back with his doc make sure that all is good. I appreciate the comments it will probably make his night.

This would have to be a case by case basis, under medical guidance in cooperation with the hiring agency or agencies involved, possibly the target County as well.

Since we can't give you either legal or medical advice here (though I did hear support for him going for it) let's not try and second guess your little brother's case.

Instead, give him our encouragement and then check in later on and tell us how it went.

Better yet, when he's ready get him to join the site!
