This might be a pointless question to ask on here but oh well, i am 17 and i am a first responder right now and i do alot of ride outs since i am an explorer as well as training with chief hayes, anyways my question is i want to become an emt on an ambulance when i turn 18 i know i have seen this somewhere, yet i also know that you can't be on a fire department till your 21 at least in my state. So, is it true that i can be an EMT on a ambulance at the age of 18?

P.S- I get my EMT-B at the end of this year
 
Depending on the state, but here in Texas you can be 18 on an ambulance as an EMT / Medic.
 
That is what i thought but that was my fault i should of specified i am from Indiana. I was hoping to get onto the Boone County Ems, if any of you are from indiana please give me your insight, but even if you are not from indiana still please give me your insight.
 
I got my EMT while I was a senior in high school. Not too uncommon. Paramed before I was 21.
 
you sure do reference this "chief hayes" character a lot

and if its a private company, they can set the age at whatever they want

I believe Boone Co EMS runs medic/basic trucks, so from that aspect you should be ok. However, most insurance carriers around here require you be 21 to drive. If that is the case for their insurance, it means they probably won't hire you until you are 21. A basic that can't drive isn't much good to a service that runs ALS trucks. At least as a medic you would be able to tech every run you would go on.

As much as you may not like it, you may be limited to private service until you turn 21. Since most of them run BLS trucks, you could still get hired. It would just mean you would be doing all of the teching.
