Hello everyone. My name is Rae. I was a New York State EMT for a little over half a year when I was in a car accident that prevented me from working as one. My car took less damage than I did, which surprised me. To make a long story short, after a couple of years of gaining strength back, I'm preparing to enroll in classes to become an EMT in New Jersey (where I currently reside).

I had the pleasure of meeting a few of you in the chat last night; I'm looking forward to making new friends. If you happen to be in or near the Union County area, please let me know. Thanks for reading, take care and be safe. :D

Thanks for joining! We are happy to have you here, so pull up a chair and stay a while. Tell us a bit about yourself - I only do 3 questions versus Princess 20 questions, haha, BTW Princess does FBI checks for the forum, LOL just kidding.

Anyway heres the questions:
1.) Where ya from? (OK so you said NY, now in NJ, correct?)

2.) Are you EMT/ Medic/ or student? Dont worry if youre a student we promise not to hang you from the flagpole. ;)

3.) Any hobbies you enjoy outside of EMS??

Thanks for joining!

Yes, I was born and raised in NYC. But in May of 2004 I moved out to New Jersey with my family while I was still recovering.

Technically I'm a NYS EMT until January 2006. I haven't worked in EMS since 2003, however. So yeah, that makes me a soon-to-be student lol. I'm looking into schools in my area at the moment.

3.) Any hobbies you enjoy outside of EMS??
I have a good deal of hobbies I enjoy in my free time -- writing, drawing, singing (I'm working on a CD but that's on hold for now), shooting pool, bowling, pyrography, and swimming (well, in the summertime anyway). Those are just the ones I love the most.

Thanks for joining!
Thanks for having me. :)

Try using your NY cert, after you go through a refresher, to get your National cert.

Thanks for the advice. :) Will the fact that my licensing expires next month cause any problems you think?

I am not sure about NY, but I would think if you kept up an your CE it would be OK.

welcome and please try not to hold some of us old timers senses of humor against us... and which union county are you asking about?

PS- Princess has not sent me the 20 questions yet, maybe you are safe.

Welcome to our own little corner of dysfunction.

Welcome to our screwed up little family  . Enjoy, sit back, kick your feet up & have fun.

Welcome. I am glad that albeit a slow recovery, it has been a successful one!!

Don't throw away your NYS EMT... espicially if you got it in NYC.

see what you need to do to re-cert it, and consider going in for a 40-hour refresher class, etc. NJ should give you a NJ EMT based on a NY EMT.

Jon

Yes by all means keep your NY card...you should be able to get direct reciprocity to NJ with it. They should issue you a NJ card for a short period, like a year, and you must then either recert by taking a NJ refresher or by obtaining NREMT status. That is my understanding of the way NJ reciporicty is.

Thanks; I'm very glad to be here. I won't hold anyone's sense of humor against them -- I have one myself. :D
I'm asking about Union County, NJ -- Roselle, Roselle Park, Elizabeth, Union, etc.
LOL That's very good to know. Thank you.

Thanks. Slow almost seems like an understatement. It drove me insane. But what matters is by the time I finish recertifying I'll be back to being able to handle how physically taxing work could be (with the aid a weight belt and some Bayer or Advil).

we are NOT screwed up... we are dysFUNctional *grin*all the love from home wrapped up in a tiny lil forum

The problem with re-cert in NY is getting to NY to do it. It's expensive and inconvenient to do so at the time.
