I've observed many a medic aspire to work for a "progressive" EMS system and I have heard many claim to work at a place that is "progressive". But, what is progressive? I'm just curious what your view point is.

Some things that come to mind for myself:
- Active research into new treatments, resource deployment, etc.
- Involvement with injury/illness prevention programs
- Using evidence-based practice
- maximizing paramedic experience with critical patients
- Physician involvement up to and including responding to certain calls themselves

I apologize if this has ever been hashed out on here.

Generally speaking a "progressive" service will use the latest evidence based practice with supporting protocols, equipment, medicines, and Med control backing.

However, there is an Achilles Heal with This. It's a double edged sword, really. The great thing about a progressive company is that they're always finding new ways to do things better. The problem with a progressive company is that they're ALWAYS finding new ways to do things better.

If if don't like the way they do things, wait.
