So, I just recently started as a basic and I will be picking up whatever shifts are still available on the schedule. I am interested in finding another part time job and I am looking for advice on what opportunities are out there and what would be a good fit.
I currently have a BS in Interdisciplinary Health and I have considered going to more school for nursing or to be a physician's assistant. The original plan was to become EMT for the experience and to see what else is out there and I have ended up loving it so far. What have you all done or what would you suggest looking into for more experience?

Hey Courtney,

I am looking at some companies to apply to as I just got my certification. How do you like it at PRN?

As far as side jobs, have you tried working at hospitals as an ER tech? I know some require at least 6 months to a year of experience though.

I know there are also EMT's/Security at Casinos too!

I dispatch for a hospital downtown.

I would agree, an ERT or dispatch job would be nice if you are looking to stay within the field. I also have a non EMS job, business management....I will spare you the boring details.

Asking someone who just started at their job how they like it is like asking a kid if they like candy.

For what it's worth, I hate the idea of EMTs being EMTs because they want experience for something else. In my experience, that group of EMTs has never really met a high standard.

You can hate PA schools for requiring a 1000 hrs as an EMT prior to applying. Or you can hate people who want to experience entry level healthcare without a serious commitment to nursing school and above. Maybe you can hate people for leaving the industry for greener pastures, but that would mean hating the industry first.

I got a better suggestion - don't hate

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

(Except AMR, that will enslave you forever.)

Even if she just started I'm pretty sure she would have an idea withing the first couple of shifts.

And for many, the reality is that being an EMT is just a stepping stone. $11/hr in California is a joke.
