First, sorry if this has been done before. I know some of you are sticklers for the search function. ;-) Second, I again apologize if this isn't the right board but I figured it would get moved if I'm wrong.

Fresh off my honeymoon and my wife and I have agreed that I should wait until the summer to start class. As much as I hate my current job, it does pay ok so it will give me some time to save more money to pay for the class, etc. What I was wondering is if there is anything I can or should do in order to prepare myself for class. One thing I've considered is trying to get on part time with one of the EMS agencies close to me as a driver. Also I'm planning to join the volunteer fire department and become a first responder. Does anyone else have any other advice?

Thanks and have a great week!

Jon

I like your enthusiasm to get out there and really jump into the field, unfortunately you need to crawl before you can walk. Not all states allow "ambulance drivers" so that I can't tell you one way or another but I wouldn't get my hopes up for that too much. In my state you must be an EMT-B or higher to work on an ambulance in any duty.

And again with the volly FD/ first responders it's great to want to get out there and really do it but in order to be a first responder you have to take a class that is nearly as long as EMT-Basic so your best bet would be just waiting until you get your basic class out of the way then go for both jobs.

Everything will come together for you in time just enjoy the ride and the new wife and realize that as an EMT you will never see her again

Good basic science classes will make A&P easier. Also a class in technical writing helps as does Medical Terminology.
