I just got some samples of these to try. What are your issues with them specifically. I haven't even taken them out of the box yet so I'd like to hear comments from those who have used them.

Sigh. There are a few things I don't like about them.

1) They can't be previously affixed to the board, so after you roll your pt onto the board you have to slide the flat connecting piece under the pt's head. This can be a real PIA in several circumstances. This can be circumvented by tearing or cutting the thing in two pieces, which I'm starting to do after way too long of cursing it.

2) The tape. Oh, the tape. Sticks to latex gloves way better than your board. Combative pt's rip through it with very little effort. Regular 3" tape works so much more effectively, plus it doesn't tear the fingertips off your gloves in the middle of patient care. (I've found that nitrile gloves confound its sticky properties, however)

3) It seems to allow for more pt movement than other devices. The forehead tape with the padded styro strip always seems to end up loose, no matter how tight you put that sucker on.

Now I admit of course that all of this could be attributed to operator error, but over the years I've worked at two different services that have used the Headbeds, and all of these appear to be very common qualms. They may even be minor issues, but annoying nonetheless.

The few times I've gotten to take the triangular blocks for a spin, I've liked them much better, and the orange reusable ones look pretty groovy too. Good old-fashioned rolled-up towels work just fine, as well. I'm just not a fan of the Headbeds.
