I was hoping to start EMTB in Aug. Being in the military, I can't always attend school when I choose. It doesn't look like my unit is going to let me start the course, we are super busy all fall. They said if I can't do it this semester they will sign a letter of intent allowing me to do it next semester. I don't want to waste my time this semester. So here is my question.

What can I be reading/studying that will help me be ahead of the game when I start next semester? Are the actual books used for the EMTB course?

I should mention that my former medical training only consist of a few Combat Life Saver courses. Basic dropin in IV lines, airway management, and trauma treatment relating to most common injuries sustained in armed combat. I just don't how closely the Army follows EMT standards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the college website (or the site where the course is being held) check what books are required for the class, buy a used one on Amazon for cheap. :)

Roger that. Try for the latest version, don't buy one more than one iteration ago. And SPECIFY WHICH EDITION YOU WANT. I tried to buy an EMT text and the edition they delivered was not the edition pictured. I returned it for a refund but had to pay postage.

I've found the Brady Emergency Care textbook the best, if you can pick up a used copy online for cheap I'd go with that. I wouldn't worry about it not being THE latest version. Things do change but the changes are minor and should be covered in class.

I wouldn't mess with AAOS unless that's the text your class uses and you have no choice. The textbook is so vague that you can read a chapter several times and still not have a clue what to do in a real situation.

I am currently in school for Med Tech for the AF. As far as I know you will be using the same book we use -- the Brady Book --

I don't know if the Army uses the companion workbook.

For the AF the Brady book is divided into modules i.e. chapters 18-26 was module 5, etc

We are tested after each module. Read ahead as much as you can and pay attention.

We also do a series of labs for a skills assessment at the end of all the chapter tests. PAY ATTENTION IN LABS AND KNOW THEM LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND. Plus I believe Army also takes NREMT
