please forgive this stethescope thread: ADC 603 General Diagnostic Stethoscope

My first good stethoscope was an ADC model, not necessarily the one pictured. Compared to the Littmann I replaced it with, the ADC tubing was heavier and less flexible. If I had it to do over, I would have started with a Littmann.

It is not what is in your ears that matters, it is what is between them.

Nothing wrong with the ADC 603. It works.

Dont blow a lot of money on a Stethoscope. Your not a cardiologist looking for the smallest of sounds, your an EMT trying to get a broad picture of the pts condition and keep them alive for 15-30 minutes. Your in and out of the rig, crawling into rolled over cars and rushing into ERs. Your going to lose and damage stethoscopes on a regular basis just by doing your job and really nice ones grow legs fast.

Buy a ~$50 model that is comfortable for you to use and put your name and agency all over it.

What are you people doing with your stethoscopes?

I have never had one lost or stolen.

Had the diaphragm of one damaged, but that was a $3 fix years and years ago. I would say the level of abuse was considerable. I have had my current one for 11 years and it has been to every climate all over the globe.

Take care of the equipment that takes care of you.

False.

If that's all the longer I kept a patient alive... I'd be getting into the hospital doing CPR.

In regards to the original post, I have a Littmann Master Classic II. Durable, reliable, and great audio. I'd recommend it. We got Littmann Selects for free in class and they didn't work worth a hoot for me personally.

Vene was half right. It's not how expensive your stethoscope is, it's how you use and interpret the information you get from it. But, on top of that, if you buy something that you can't hear out of, it's not going to do you or your patient good either.

I say Littmann Classic II. You'll like it and it will help you out being new.

I put a name tag around the neck using a patient ID band (the plastic kind and put paper inside it with my name). Never came off.

Whats this "crawling around in cars" junk that you speak of? If I DO do that, I don't have my stethoscope because frankly, thats not very important at that point.

I started with a 603 and loved it. It was a great scope for a basic. Now I'm using an Ultrascope and my fancy Littmann is sitting around collecting dust.

I have never ever heard anybody say anything bad about an ultrascope...

But i'll stick with my Master Classic for now.

I agree. I've had my Littman Master Cardiology for around 12 years, probably closer to 14 years. I've had to replace one ear piece and one diaphragm in that time. I clean it after every call and it's been in nearly every climate in the country with no problems.

I can not understand why a person wouldn't take care of personal item, especially one that you need and use every working day.

For EMS purposes, I just need a single-tubed, squishy earpieced stethoscope. The hard earpieces hurt my ears.

I had a Littman Classic II when I was working in the hospital, but I don't think I'd spend more than $50 for a stethoscope now. I'm no cardiologist.

Am playing with both my new Littmann Classic II and the trial 3200. While the 3200 is awesome, I don't find it applicable to my position right now (as far as the software and such)... the MAJOR major plus for me is being able to increase the volume levels which may help in the back of the truck, and its also cool that it detects a fairly accurate heart rate on the digital back-lit display. For now, my Classic will work, but in the future I will likely end up purchasing this, if not something similar, for the volume control and and convenient display/analyzation features.
