Do hospitals require further certification to become a PCT other than an EMT license? Also, would I be able to get a PCT job right after I get my EMT license without any experience?
Thanks

That will depend on what state you are in. Patient Care Technician is often another level above CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and can be up to an additional 500 hours of training beyond the CNA which must be at least 75 hours in length.

Several states want the PCT to be trained/certified in phlebotomy which is about 150 hours for the entry level and EKG trained to do 12 leads. Other duties may include foley catheter insertion. EMT skills play a very small part of patient care in the hospital.

I've done the PCT thing before as an EMT. Depends on where you live and want to work. Places I have worked had that job the hospital required an EMT cert and then just did some "employee training" which basically amounted to another PCT helping you learn skills you don't have but need for the job. In some places PCT's do IV's, phlebotomy, wound care, EMT stuff, and administrative tasks.

like the above said. i would also look online at local places you would like to work and see what exactly the requirements are. some places may require a year of EMT experience, some may require no experience..
