Does anybody know of a Paramedic school in L.A. County that is not too expensive? I've done some research and I don't get many results for L.A. County other than Harbor UCLA, which by the way is too expensive....I don't have $10,000 to spend. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED IT....THANK YOU!!!!

Just a generic answer: Have you looked at the Community Colleges? You might have to dig around in their Catalog, but some do offer it. Try here for a PDF of the LA County Approved Training Programs: http://ems.dhs.lacounty.gov/Certification/ParaTrainingMay03.pdf If those don't work for you, try looking at training programs/colleges just outside LA County.

I have looked into community colleges, but not much luck there. Thanks for the pdf file....I'll check it out.

Mt. sac, or saddle back, maybe bakersfield com college about an hour north.

If you go to a Community College the program will be well over $10,000... least in this neck of the woods. Have you considered financial aid? Obama made it easier to go to school and get financial aid.

What neck of the woods? This person is from California. Mt. SAC still lists their tuition at $20/unit although it may be closer to $25 now. Even for a degree at 64 units that is less than $2000. Even with another $1500-$2000 for books that is CHEAP. And, unlike the private techs aka medic mills, the college credit can transfer or apply to other degrees.

I've seen Paramedic programs cost anywhere from about $1200 or so for a Community College course (approx. 32 units @ $26/unit +books, insurance, fees) through about $13k for a private, ROP affiliated program. That does NOT take into consideration the cost of any prerequisites to enter the program. Entrance to those programs are usually very competitive.

If you're willing to travel some, your options for where you can take the Paramedic program will increase. Just make sure it's accredited... and for that, just call the California State EMS Authority. They'd know for sure if the program you're looking at is accredited.

The list is on the EMSA website of all of the accredited Paramedic programs. At least CA did get this right and does require all of their Paramedic programs to be accredited by CoAEMSP.

Thanks to all of you for your guidance/advice. I looked at El Camino Community College, and it will be approximately $2000...so again, Thank you all for your help. :)

Victor valley college is about $1800 B)

Yeah, but Victor Valley is actually in San Bernardino County, and the OP wanted LA County :P Seeing as how he has settled on El Camino, I'm guessing it would have been quite a drive!

At my school is costs $830 to go full time. But I got a scholarship so its only costing me about $500 plus books and this college is well known to have one of the best programs around.

There aren't too many options.

I'm see you already heard of Daniel Freeman and Mt SAC which are both very good but expensive schools to go to. El Camino college is you alternative if you're looking for cheaper... But be aware, cheaper isn't always better. I've never heard anything good about PTI(El Camino).

I actually moved out of LA CO to get a better education for cheaper. If you're willing to commute, as alot of people I know do; you can choose for Crafton College(very good), Victor Valley College, and Riverside Community College programs.

There is a benefit from learning in these counties... More standing orders, medications and skills to perform.
